Percussion, Performance, Alexander Technique
Spanish percussionist Lucía Carro Veiga can be seen and heard on stage as a contemporary percussion soloist or orchestral percussionist, as well as in staged projects of different kinds of performance art.
She started her orchestral experience as a member of different young orchestras, such as the Young Symphony Orchestra of Galicia (OJSG), the National Young Orchestra of Holland (NJO), the National Young Orchestra of Spain (JONDE) and the Lucerne Festival Academy, and as an apprentice at Sinfonieorchester Basel (2010-2011). She has performed Sinfonieorchester Basel, Basel Sinfonietta, Basel Festival Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, Orquesta Nacional de España, Orquesta Sinfónica de las Islas Baleares, Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse and Philharmonisches Orchester Freiburg and conductors such Valery Gergiev, Mario Venzago, Denis Russel Davies, Pierre Boulez, Pablo Heras Casado, Matthias Pintscher, Bernard Haitink and David Robertson.
She is a former member of chamber music formations such piano and percussion duo "Duo Tied" and electronics-percussion duo "Schlag:strom". Duo Tied won several competitions, among others Karlsruhe Contemporary Music Competition 2015 and Orpheus Chamber Music Competition 2015. Their performance of KONTAKTE by Karlheinz Stockhausen accomplished a first Prize in Stockhausen-Stiftung Courses and Concerts 2015 in Kürten.
As a soloist and member of different ensembles, Lucía performed at contemporary and classical music festival such Huddersfield Festival, Time of Music Viitasaari, Schleswig Holstein Festival, ASTAPER Percussion Festival (Warsaw) Two Days and Two Nights of New Music (Odessa), Edinburgh Music Festival, Klang Basel, Roaring-Hooves Festival (Mongolia), IMPULS in Graz and Electroacoustic Music Festival in Monaco. Complementary to her performing activity, she has recorded for Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen (SRF), Deutschland Radio, Klaasikraadio Finnland, ARTE Tv and Radio Nacional de España. With the Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology (ICST) Zürich and the Label Col Legno she collaborated for the CD-Production of KONTAKTE by Karlheinz Stockhausen.
From 2014 until 2017 she was percussion tutor at the Escuela Superior de Música Katarina Gurska in Madrid, Spain and took the position of artistic director of the first edition of the Festival Internacional Bergerault, a Spanish contemporary music festival, focused on percussion and composition. Furthermore, she has worked together with composers such as Beat Furrer, Klaus Huber, Sofia Gubaidulina, Matthias Kaul, Helmut Lachenmann, Heinz Holliger, Yiran Zhao, Lukas Huber and Georges Aperghis.
